Congratulations to Mallory Cecil for admission into Duke University this January! With a 4.0 grade point average and a number one junior tennis ranking, Mallory enters Duke with excitement and confidence that she has found the right school and the right team. Mallory is an alumna of IMG's Bollettieri Tennis Academy along with The Pendleton School.

College Advising

College advising is an integral and valued component of The Pendleton School. Pendleton offers Advanced Placement courses, dual enrollment, and qualified on-line schools. Approximately 90 percent of Pendleton's graduates go on to college, some qualifying for entrance to prestigious institutions of higher learning such as Stanford, Cornell, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Their offices are located in Pendleton’s main building and their office hours include evening times to accommodate students’ schedules. Services offered by the College Advising staff include but are not limited to:

Seniors

  • Meet weekly with each Pendleton senior through the first semester
  • Consult with coaches and parents 
  • Develop a pool of schools matching the senior’s hopes, dreams, and abilities
  • Help seniors register with NCAA 
  • Provide guidance and strategy for standardized testing (SAT, ACT, TOEFL) 
  • Assist with mechanics and deadlines of applications
  • Help plan college visits
  • Contact admissions counselors as needed
  • Prompt ideas for essay themes 
  • Complete personalized school counselor recommendations for each senior as requested in college applications
  • Request teacher recommendations

Juniors

  • Meet with juniors when first semester grades and PSAT scores arrive
  • Review progress and discuss strategy for senior year college prep activities
  • Prepare juniors on Early Decision track for applications
  • Develop a summer action plan for all Regular Decision juniors  

Sophomores

  • Meet in small groups to take the PLAN and PSAT
  • Help students set future education goals
  • Analyze the results of tests
Freshmen
  • Introduce the importance and concept of strategic college planning
  • Prepare students to take the EXPLORE

altInternational students usually have many questions about the university system in the United States. Pendleton’s college advisors encourage communication, offering students and their families informed support and maximum availability. Students with a native language other than English should plan to take the TOEFL test which is administered by the College Advising department.
